Driver dies after hitting wall in Rockrimmon

A man in Colorado Springs has died after crashing into a large brick retaining wall in the Rockrimmon area. It happened some time before 1:30 a.m. Sunday morning along the 1200 block of Allegheny Drive.

Officers were responding to another call in the area when they saw the crash and stopped. The 40 year old man was conscious at the time. He was taken by ambulance to the hospital and later died.

Police believe the man may have been drinking. He appeared to be headed west on Allegheny when his 1990 Honda sedan veered off of the right side of the road and collided with the wall.

Photos sent to News First 5 show a large area of bricks and debris in the area where the car struck the wall.

The man's identity has not yet been released. Members of the CSPD Major Accident Unit are investigating.
