Duckett Fire now 30% contained

Fire crews seem to be gaining the upper hand on the Duckett Fire, which is burning in Fremont & Custer counties near Westcliffe.

The fire remains at 4,348 acres and is now 30% contained. Evacuations remain in effect for the Eagle Peak Subdivision, Rainbo Trail Lutheran Camp, Brush Creek Subdivision, Maytag Ranch and other scattered structures. In all, approximately 76 residence from Fremont County and 55 residences from Custer County have been evacuated. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Crews say they will continue to patrol both the north and south edges of the fire throughout the night.
