DUI crackdown nabs 447 over Halloween weekend

State and local law enforcement agencies arrested 447 drunk drivers during the Halloween weekend as part of the Halloween Heat is On campaign. Preliminary data released by the Colorado State Patrol show the highest number of arrests were in Denver, with 58.

Colorado Springs had the second highest number of arrests with 39. Rounding out the top five are Aurora (21), Adams County (20) and Thorton (16).

"Hundreds of drivers chose to get behind the wheel after drinking, despite the repeated warnings," said Col. James Wolfinbarger, Chief of the Colorado State Patrol.

"Those drivers are now living the real nightmare of a DUI arrest, which may cost them their driving privilege and more than $10,000 in fines, fees and insurances increases. Clearly, driving under the influence is not worth it."

The data also show that 10 people died in alcohol-related traffic accident during the month of October. However, none of the deaths occurred over the Halloween weekend.
