DURANGO, Colo. (AP) - The city of Durango has ordered the Durango Gun Club to abandon a requirement that its 700 members join the National Rifle Association or leave.
The nonprofit group has leased free from the city since 1963.
The Durango Herald reports club secretary and treasurer Joe Perino says the decision to require members to belong to the NRA is financial, not political. He says being a 100 percent NRA club makes the local club eligible for NRA grants, allowing members to make improvements to its shooting ranges.
