Mesa County investigators says they're not even going to try to figure out how a case of dynamite ended up in a rural ditch north of Loma.

The dynamite was discovered Saturday by a volunteer on a highway cleanup crew. Authorities say the volunteer spotted 16 pounds of dynamite in a plastic case. No one was hurt.

The dynamite was found in an irrigation ditch. It had a manufacture date of 1998.

Mesa County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman Sally Weese says a bomb squad from Grand Junction safely blew up the dynamite.
