Earthquake in Turkey collapses two buildings

A powerful earthquake sent people running into the streets today in eastern Turkey.

At least two buildings collapsed in the city of Van.

Turkey's state-run news agency said rescue workers were trying to reach people trapped under the rubble of a seven-story building.

The U.S.G.S placed the earthquake at a preliminary magnitude of 7.3.

The earthquake struck at a shallow 4.5 miles at around 1:40 p-m local time.

The earthquake's epicenter was in a village in eastern Van Province, which borders Iran.

Turkey does cross fault lines and earthquakes are frequent.
