El Paso County may soon be contracting out, once again, for animal control.

Right now, the city works with the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region for field calls, but the county had to drop its contract because of budget constraints. However, on Thursday, Commissioners will be voting to bring back the animal services contract.

"Animal control is a very important, essential government function, and we hear from people all the time who wish to have our officers respond," says Leslie Yoder, Director of Operations for the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region.

"I would rather have the Sheriff responding to important calls from our citizens rather than to have to be on animal control," explains El Paso County Commissioner Sallie Clark.

The $140,000 contract would stop the Sheriff's office from handling animal calls, which the county has been paying for on a call by call basis.
