The first recreational marijuana retail establishment in El Paso County, Colorado's most populous county, opened at 4:20 p.m. Thursday.
Maggie's Farm, located in Manitou Springs along Manitou Avenue at the U.S. Highway 24 interchange, made history by being the first recreational marijuana business to open its doors in El Paso County. Fewer that two dozen people waited in line for most of the day, but around 4:00 a rush of people boosted the number of people waiting to buy legal pot to more than 50.
Manitou Springs Police Chief Joe Ribiero toured the facility around two hours before its scheduled opening, speaking to the staff behind closed doors.
Due to the limited number of parking spaces in the Maggie's Farm lot, additional parking was made available in the parking lot of the nearby car museum.
