El Paso County Sheriff's Office investigating three suspicious fires in Black Forest

The El Paso County Sheriff's Office is investigating three suspicious fires that have been sparked in Black Forest over the past week.

On July 16 two fires were put out at the north end of Fox Run Regional Park and then another on Sunday morning. At all three sheriff's deputies found evidence that the fires were intentionally set.

"It certainly does make you wonder what's going through someone's mind that would do something like that to a special place like this," said Karen Pike, who lives near Fox Run. "We're really angry and really frustrated with the situation I hope they can get that under control really quickly."

Sheriff's office investigators are working to try and determine who set the fires or if they're all connected.

"Obviously because of their proximity, because they're relatively close in timing as well these incidents we're certainly remaining open minded to that possibility," explained Lt. Jeff Kramer.

Fox Run Regional Park is just west of the site of the Black Forest Fire that destroyed 488 homes and killed two people. Both the Black Forest Fire and the Waldo Canyon Fire which destroyed 346 home and also took two lives were human caused. Those living in Black Forest know all too well the danger presented by the recent suspicious fires and want whoever is responsible found.

"I think if they ever catch them they ought to string them up, it's terrible," said Dale Young, who visited Fox Run on Monday. "We just came up here through Black Forest on our way out to the park and it looks like a war zone, it's terrible."

The El Paso County Sheriff's Office has stepped up patrols in the area, anyone with information about the fires is asked to call 719-290-5555.
