Next month we'll be mailing in ballots for elections; in El Paso County they're getting ready for the big count. They're doing a Logic and Accuracy test for the counting machines; they use test ballots and randomly mark them, then they compare the electronic count with a hand count. County election managers are also getting in a little practice at the new offices off of Garden of the Gods Road.

"We've got to set up the room for the public Logic and Accuracy as we're doing today, so it kind of gives us a feel for what's going to work and what won't work when we actually start counting ballots here a few weeks," says Liz Olson, election manager for El Paso County.

Previously the counting took place at Centennial Hall downtown.

Once the counters are checked, the machines are sealed and locked in the room. The Peterson Counting Center is under 24-hour surveillance.
