COLORADO SPRINGS - A record 292,698 voters cast ballots in El Paso County during in the 2012 General Election. The county election department finished the canvassing process Wednesday which officially certifies the results. The final vote tally beat the 2008 record by 17,991 votes.
According to a news release issued by Clerk and Recorder Wayne Williams, the vote tally was also remarkably accurate. As part of the finalizing process, election results are subject to a mandatory Post Election Audit.
The Secretary of State's Election Division randomly selects voting devices and races and compares the the tabulated results with a hand count. El Paso County's machine matched the hand count matched in every instance.
Final official election results have been posted to the Clerk & Recorder's web page. Precinct results are expected to be posted later Wednesday evening.
