The Elbert County Sheriff and the Fire Chiefs Association have decided to reduce the current burn restriction from Stage 3 to Stage 2.
Sheriff Shayne Heap signed an executive order making the reduction effective immediately. Officials remind the community that with today's reduction, Elbert County is not removed from the potential for fire danger and that burning still requires permit from your local fire authority or district.
Residents must obtain the proper fire permitting with your local Fire Protection District to burn at your home or business. Stage 2 prohibits burning without approved permitting and excepts the use of charcoal grill fires, fires in approved portable exterior fireplaces (with permit), and outdoor welding and
hot work. The sale and use of fireworks and educational rockets is prohibited under stage 2 burn ban.
