Elder wins sheriff's race at GOP assembly

The hotly contested El Paso County Sheriff's race has been decided: Bill Elder came away with the win Saturday at the GOP assembly at UCCS. He received 724 delegate votes over Jim Reid's 218 and John Anderson's 173.

No Democrat or independent candidates have entered the race.

Chuck Broerman won the race for Clerk and Recorder with 957 votes, while Duncan Bremer won for treasurer with 538 votes.

Many in attendance said the turn out at the assembly was the highest they'd ever seen.

"The turnout is absolutely phenomenal. This shows a lot of strength in the Republican party and I hope we continue to go that way," said Reid.

The Democrats held their assembly last weekend at UCCS.
