UPDATE: Colorado Springs police arrested William Skolout, 63, in connection with last week's scooter theft Friday afternoon.
Colorado Springs Police need your help catching an elderly man who stole a brand new scooter in broad daylight.
This happened Wednesday afternoon at Sportique Scooters on East Platte Avenue and Bonfoy.
The store's owner says the man took the scooter on a test drive, and never returned.
"We do test rides all the time," Jarrod Stuhlsatz, the owner of Sportique Scooters said. "People come in, fill out a waiver and we take a copy of their drivers license."
Stuhlsatz says the man wanted a red Stella automatic scooter, similar to the one below.
The man, believed to be in his late 60's or early 70's filled out a waiver and showed Stuhlsatz his license, but then snatched his information back when Stuhlsatz wasn't
"He slips the waiver off the desk and folds it before putting it in his pocket," Stuhlsatz said.
Oblivious the man took the waiver, Stuhlsatz got the keys to the scooter and meets the man outside.
The man is caught on tape putting on his helmet before driving away.
"15 minutes go by and I start thinking he got a flat tire or crashed," Stuhlsatz said. "I drove around the neighborhood looking from him."
The man was long gone. It wasn't until Stuhlsatz went to review surveillance video that he realized the man was no customer.
"The white hair and the cane made me let my guard down," he said. "I didn't think he would steal anything. It's kind of strange to see an old guy steal. We've never lost a scooter on a test drive."
If you can identify the man in the images below, call Colorado Springs police at 444-7000.
