Electricity back on after 50 minute outage

Electrical service failed on the southeast side of Pueblo early Thursday morning after an apparent problem at the Comanche power plant.

A resident near the plant reported hearing a loud noise, which he called and "explosion" at the power plant around 6 a.m.  He said he then saw blue smoke coming from the generating station.

Power was out in the area, including at Evraz Rocky Mountain Steel for about 50 minutes beginning at 6:05 a.m.  The steel mill is one of the largest users of electricity in Colorado.

Xcel Energy said the problem was with a transformer at Comanche Generating Station.  It happened during routine maintenance.
