The Cheyenne Mountain Zoo elephants were released into their new home for the first time Wednesday morning.
The new elephant enclosure is part of a more than 13-million dollar "Encounter Africa" exhibit which is still under construction. When completely finished the elephants will enjoy a big new sand pit, showers they can operate, pools, and big trees planted just for them to play with and eat.
The new African exhibit isn't just for elephants though, other features include a meerkat exhibit, a 20-foot waterfall and mud wallows for the black rhino, but all that won't be completed until May.
Zoo's pride of African lions will also be part of the exhibit, and Tuesday the newest addition to the lions, Abuto, a male lion, made his public debut.
