It's the day Bronco fans have been waiting for, #7 is back with the Orange and Blue. Former Bronco and Hall of Fame quarterback John Elway joins the team as the new executive vice president of football operations. When it comes to all football decisions, Elway will have final say. "I can't think of a better job and a better guy to do that job, than John Elway." said Broncos Owner Pat Bowlen at a press conference at Broncos Headquarters. "I'm excited! The Denver Broncos are in my blood. They always have been." said Elway, "It's definitely a thrill to be back."
When asked why he chose now to come back to the organization, Elway explained that he wasn't ready when he retired. Since then Elway has become a successful businessman and football executive, leading the Arena Football League's Colorado Crush to a championship. Even with all the success, Elway said he's ready for the next challenge. "I've had several people say, How many times are times are you going to try to climb another mountain? I say probably when I get too tired. But I'm not too tired to climb another mountain." explained Elway, "Obviously this is a mountain here that we need to climb, and I look forward to the challenge. That's the way I'm built."
Elway played all 16 years of his career for the Broncos winning 2 Super Bowls along the way. He says it's that understanding of the team that's going to help him in the front office. "Because of my experience here and having played here for 16 years, I understand what the Broncos are all about. They're about integrity, about winning" he explained, "It's about the things you do and how you handle yourself not only as a player, but in the front office."
After a turbulent 2010 season one thing is certain. Elway is ready to lead the Broncos on another comeback. "I can tell you this. My greatest asset is my competitiveness." he said, "I'll give everything I can to return this team to the way it was back in the day when we were winning championships,"
