Colorado Springs Utilities (CSU) workers, Robert Maestas, Thomas Mattarono and William Mohrensweiser, were arrested after stealing from one of CSU's storage facilities located at 930 S. Union in Colorado Springs.
They are facing felony charges from the police department and are under internal investigation by CSU.
CSU spokesperson Steven Berry says, "[They] stole a lot of old stuff like an old generator, some tools, and old tool box, for example. That's estimated to be between fifteen hundred and two thousand dollars."
The surprising fact about these employees is that each has been working for the company between ten and seventeen years.
Berry adds, "These particular employees were doing a great job for us. The question is, we don't know what happened since then, but these were good employees for several years."
The losses for these guys are huge for such a relatively small amount stolen -- the likelihood is they may lose their jobs.
Berry also says, "This in no way should be a reflection on the 99.9% of our employees who do a fantastic job day in and day out. It's important to remember that it was our own employee who tipped off this issue and enabled us to find these individuals."
