FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) - A man who pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the shooting death of a 16-year-old girl in Estes Park has been sentenced to six years in prison.
The Denver Post reports District Judge Thomas French sentenced 21-year-old Thomas Decker Dodge on Thursday for the death of Miranda Casey last December. As part of a plea deal, prosecutors dismissed charges of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and menacing.
Authorities say Dodge and Casey had a series of quarrels that escalated through the evening, and Dodge took a shotgun out of his closet and racked it so there was a shell in the chamber. Investigators say Dodge told them the two wrestled with the gun, which accidentally discharged as Casey pulled it to her chin.
