PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - The ABC TV show Extreme Makeover tore down a family's mold-filled house in Las Vegas and built a new one so their two ill daughters would have a healthier place to live.
But doctors in Oregon told state child welfare authorities that the girls are not as sick as their mother claims and that Terri Cerda impulsively sought treatment for immune-deficiency problems the girls didn't have.
The Oregonian says the family moved to Oregon in 2009. The newspaper reports that the state took temporary custody of Molly, 10 and Maggie, 8, in February but returned them in March, when the family returned to Nevada.
The couple's lawyer, Mikel Miller, has not returned calls from The Associated Press.
The talent agency that recruited the couple also didn't returned calls for comment.
