Family and police seek public's help in finding missing Canon City teen

The family of Miranda Baca, 17, and Canon City Police are asking for the public's help in finding the teenager after she went missing on Friday.

According to Baca's family, she was last seen at around 7:30 a.m. on Friday when she was dropped of at Canon City High School.

"She actually ran into a friend and that friend has reported to me and she said the Miranda was going to leave for the day and leave with a boyfriend that she had met online," explained Sara Vail, Baca's aunt. "We're scared that she might be with him."

The family has little information about the supposed boyfriend and hasn't had any word from Miranda since Friday morning. They say she's never runaway before, doesn't have her own car and they don't know if she has medication she needs to treat a seizure disorder.

The family doesn't believe Miranda ran-away because she had bought a prom dress with her own money, planning to attend the dance on Saturday. But, she never showed up to festivities at the high school.

"We went to the prom and we passed out fliers to everybody there," Sara Vail described. "Handed them out to everybody and gave them to the school and everything."

On Sunday Canon City Police put out an alert asking for the public's help in locating Miranda. They believe she may have gone to Pueblo to meet with a person she had met online or to meet a boyfriend.

Since she went missing Baca's family has put on an intense social media campaign to find her, a tactic that's become popular in locating missing people or runaways. The "Miranda Come Home" Facebook page had nearly 1,000 followers on Sunday and missing person fliers posted online have been shared thousands of times.

"She's shy, we're all shy at first, but once she gets to know you she'll open up and she has a big heart," Marquitta Baca said of her younger sister. "(Miranda) just come back home so we can stop worrying and we know you're safe and sound in your own bed."

All of Miranda's siblings asked for the public's help and for Miranda to contact them if she can.

"I love you, I want you home, I miss you so much," said a tearful Melani Baca, Miranda's younger sister. "Please come home."

Miranda Baca is 5'2'' and weighs around 100-pounds. She has brown eyes and black hair with recent blonde highlights. Also, she has three tattoos consisting of one on front of her left shoulder which says "Sisters," one that says "Family First" with a cross on her upper-back and a tribal tattoo on her left foot. When she was last seen she was wearing blue jeans, black boots, a black and white shirt and a black coat with fur lining.

Anyone with information is asked to call Canon City Police at 719.276.5600 or Crime Stoppers at 719.275.7867.
