Nearly two weeks after his disappearance, the search continues for Dylan Redwine, the 13-year-old boy who vanished from his father's home in La Plata county in southwestern Colorado.
Redwine was visiting for Thanksgiving when he vanished. Now as Christmas approaches and time slips away without any progress in his case, his family is focusing on keeping alive the only thing they can: the hope that Dylan will come home safely. Sunday night they gathered in Monument near his mother's house to pray for his return.
"This is not an easy situation," Dylan's cousin Nicole Yost said in a tearful interview at the teen's vigil Sunday night. Monday marks two weeks since the middle schooler vanished without a trace. "It's hard because there's just not information," Yost said. Eva Paredes, Dylan's aunt, told News 5, "There's just not a whole lot we can do. I hope the investigators find somebody or something."
The search continues for any sign of the boy, but without so much as a clue his hometown is shaken, lost as he is. Jeanelle Kemp, a schoolmate, told News 5 Dylan's disappearance has been difficult for his peers at Lewis Palmer Middle School. "We see a lot of people missing on the news but to have it be one of our friends, it's like...wow."
Friends and family gathered for a vigil at Limbach Park to keep the search alive. A local parent speaking at the vigil told the crowd of about 50 people, "This is a small community, and I think that makes him our family as well."
They're hoping that somewhere out there, he's listening. Nicholas Kemp, one of Dylan's best friends, said to News 5 in a message he hopes will reach Dylan, "I can't sleep, I can't think, it's hard. Dylan, if you're there, we're praying for you and we hope that you come back."
As days fade into weeks, friends and family do the only thing they can now: hope. "That's the most important message here. Don't lose hope, he's out there somewhere," a parent said to the crowd at the vigil.
Dylan Redwine is 5 feet tall, weighs 105 pounds, and has blue eyes and blonde hair. He was last seen wearing a blue and white Duke baseball cap, a black t-shit, and sneakers. Investigators say if you have any information related to the case, call the La Plata county sheriff's office.
