Feed a family with that old TV

The Eastern Plains Chamber of Commerce is hosting an electronic recycling event this weekend in Falcon and will donate money raised from the event to a pair of local food charities.

Angel Food Ministries and the Helping Hands Food Pantry both provide groceries and food assistances to families living in the Falcon area.

Event chairwoman Ann McNeill says old electronics and appliances; especially TV and computer monitors, contain harmful heavy metals.

"When you get those kinds of metals leeching into the groundwater and the soil, it's bad for everybody," McNeill said.

The event takes place Saturday from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. in the parking lot of the State Bank of Falcon, 7495 McLaughlin Road.

Blue Star Recyclers, based in Colorado Springs, will collect the electronics and appliances. They can accept cash or check payment for the disposal.
