Fire equipment stolen

The Peyton Volunteer Fire Department says at least $5,000 worth of firefighting equipment was stolen right off of one of their trucks as crews were responding to a call for service.

The firefighters were dispatched to a home near Hopper Road between Peyton and Black Forest at around 3:45 a.m. for a report of a fire alarm. The equipment was apparently stolen while the fire fighters were inside the home.

The firefighters spotted the man in the act and ran after him, but the thief managed to get into a truck and drive away. He's described as being in his mid to late 20's and was driving silver, late model, dual-wheel pickup.

Anyone with related information is asked to contact the El Paso County Sheriff's Office at 390-5555.
