Boulder fire evacuees will be allowed back again

Hundreds of residents evacuated by a wildfire burning near Boulder will get another chance to check on their homes.

Sheriff's Cmdr. Rick Brough said Friday that authorities would open roads to residents in the same areas that were cleared for entry the previous day.

Thursday's operation was halted after winds picked up earlier than expected. Those winds raised fears that the fire could spread to the city of Boulder, prompting officials to warn about 9,000 residents to make preparations to evacuate. Fire crews were able to hold the fire overnight and no evacuations were needed.

Wind gusts reached 67 mph but died down around midnight as a cold front moved in. Winds were expected to pick up again Friday afternoon.
