Fire threatens power pole in Boone

A controlled burn in Boone ends up burning an acre and causing problems for a main power line.

It happened Sunday afternoon at the intersection of 209 and highway 50 east.

Firefighters say they responded quickly and were able to put it out, but it still caused some problems for a power pole that was burning quite awhile after they had the fire on the ground out.

Firefighters say it started from a homeowner trying to clean up some of the property.

"It was a relatively small fire," said Assistant Chief Conrad Orndoff of the Pueblo Rural Fire District. "It looked a lot larger than it was because of tires. They had approximately 50 to 75 tires on fire. We were able to extinguish those rather quickly with our foam."

They may have to cut power to that line to repair the pole.

We will keep you updated on this as soon as it becomes available.
