The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch for El Paso and Teller counties. The watch is in effect from 1pm to 8pm MT Thursday. Specifcally, the areas of most concern are the Waldo Canyon and Black Forest burn scars.
We bracket the hours between 3pm and 7pm for the highest potential of flash flooding in and around Waldo Canyon and Black Forest.
High resolution computer models continue to suggest there will be thunderstorm development this afternoon over the higher terrain in western El Paso and Teller counties. Thunderstorms that develop should move to the east off the mountains. Any thunderstorm that develops this afternoon will have the potential to produce heavy downpours.
WATCH vs WARNING
Remember that a Flash Flood Watch means that atmospheric conditions are favorable for flash flooding. Whereas a Flash Flood Warning means that flooding is occurring or is imminent.
