Flash flooding possible today for some

A Flash Flood Watch is in effect from noon today through this evening for Teller and El Paso Counties - more specifically the Waldo Canyon and Black Forest burn scars. Widespread showers and thunderstorms are likely this afternoon bringing the threat for locally heavy rain and flash flooding to isolated locations. If the Waldo Canyon burn scar experiences heavy rain, it will likely produce rapid runoff of water along with possible mud, ash, and debris flows.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms are likely across much of Southern Colorado today including the mountains, Front Range, and Southeastern Plains. A Slight Risk for severe weather is in place for the Front Range and the majority of the Southeastern Plains. Large hail and damaging winds are the main threats for storms in this part of the region this afternoon.

Highs will be below average today in the 70s/80s. The cooler, more comfortable temperatures will stick around for the first half of the workweek. Temperatures will warm back up into the 80s/90s for the second of the week.

Scattered showers and storms are possible once again Monday - especially for the mountains and foothills. Southern Colorado looks to dry out by the middle of the week with the 4th of July holiday holding only a 10% chance for storms.

In November 2013, the Knar family learned that the leukemia had returned, and is now isolated in his bone marrow. In an outreach of support, Falcon Virtual Academy hosted a bone marrow donor drive in January, and will be hosting another tomorrow from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. at 6113 Constitution Ave., directly west of Care and Share Food Bank for Southern Colorado. "We wanted to reach out to the family again," said Jodi Fletcher, assistant principal. Fletcher explained that more than 250 people participated in the January drive, and she hopes to have similar numbers April 19. The money from a bake sale at the drive, and a portion of the proceeds raised from a spring formal...
