At 1:15 AM Monday, the Arkansas River near Fowler was measured at 5.8 feet. The river is expected to rise to near its flood stage of 8.0 feet by mid-morning to early afternoon. At 8.0 feet, minor agricultural flooding occurs, especially near and northeast of Rocky Ford.
This is not a Flash Flood Warning, and rain does not have to be falling for the river to continue rising. Heavy rainfall over the weekend fell on the river upstream, and a surge of rising water is expected today to bring the river to near its flood stage.
Remember, the banks of the river can become unstable, even in a minor flood situation. For safety, stay away from the banks of the Arkansas River where flooding is likely.
