Flood Warning issued for Canon City

The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for Canon City and part of Fremont County.

They say the cause is rapid snow melt in the high country above Canon City.  It has "resulted in high and fast flows along the Arkansas river. The river at Canon City is expected to reach flood stage Sunday afteroon, with only minor overbank flow into low lying areas along the river," according to the National Weather Service.

At this time it looks like the river level should drop slightly below flood stage around midnight.

NWS warns everyone to stay away from the banks of the river during high water runoffs.
