Flu clinic Thursday in Pueblo

The Pueblo City-County Health Department is offering influenza "flu" shots for uninsured adults only at a flu clinic Thursday, November 21 at the Health Department from 4:00-7:00pm.

"Flu season is here - get your flu vaccine now. An annual immunization is important to boost your immune system and is the first and most important step in protecting yourself against this serious disease," stated Dr. Christine Nevin-Woods, public health director at the Pueblo City-County Health Department.

The Health Department is hosting the flu clinic, at no charge, for any uninsured adult (19 years of age and older) this Thursday, November 21, 4:00-7:00 pm on the third floor of the Health Department building, 101 W. 9th Street. No Medicare or Medicaid clients will be accepted.

"The flu vaccine offered will be injectable form only, and will be provided on a first come, first serve basis with approximately 500 doses available," described Dr. Nevin-Woods.

During the 2012-2013 flu season, 32 people in Pueblo County were hospitalized due to flu-related illnesses, one resulted in a death. Symptoms of the flu can include:

· Fever
· Cough
· Sore throat
· Runny or stuffy nose
· Body aches
· Headache
· Chills
· Fatigue
· Diarrhea

Flu shots are recommended for anyone 6 months of age and older.
