Forecasters at Colorado's avalanche center are warning people about slides in the backcountry after more than 500 of them were recorded in the last week.
The Colorado Avalanche Information Center said Friday the recent avalanche activity has been one of the busiest in years. Seven people have been caught in the 500 slides, some of which have been hundreds of feet wide. Three people have died in avalanches this year.
The avalanche center in Boulder says the most significant activity has occurred in Aspen, Vail, Summit County and the San Juan mountains.
Forecasters say recent snowfall of as many has 50 inches on weak snowpack has caused the active avalanche conditions.
