A former Colorado Springs school resource officer who is accused of assaulting students at Mann Middle School and of possessing child pornography will stand trial on all of the charges against him at once. Joshua Carrier, 30, was first arrested on May 11 on the child pornography charges then was re-arrested on May 19 on the sexual assault charges.

On Wednesday, prosecutors voluntarily dismissed the child pornography charges with the understanding that they would refile them next month in the larger sexual assault case. The earlier case would have gone to trial January 9.

District Judge David Gilbert allowed the procedure to happen with the understanding that Mr. Carrier waived his right to a speedy trial. Carrier is due in court again in February 3 for a motions hearing. His trial is tentatively scheduled for March 12.
