GORHAM, N.H. (AP) - Former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman is mapping out a 2012 presidential campaign that skips early-voting Iowa to focus on New Hampshire, South Carolina and Florida.

He's not yet an announced GOP candidate for 2012, but he sure sounded like it in an Associated Press interview Saturday in New Hampshire.

Iowa seems to be a no-go because of Huntsman's opposition to subsidies for corn-based ethanol.

Huntsman says he'll announce his next steps by the end of June. He's plotting a political schedule that suggests he'll soon be a formal candidate soon.

Huntsman says a GOP nomination race has "never been this wide open" and that unsettled nature benefits upstart campaigns like the one he's preparing.

Only five weeks ago Huntsman stepped down as President Barack Obama's ambassador to China.
