Fort Carson, Colo. - Fort Carson is hosting a run to remember fallen soldiers Saturday at 8 a.m. at Iron Horse Park.

The Run for the Fallen honors the men and women who have died while serving in Overseas Contingency Operations. Participants will wear runners' bibs displaying names and ranks of fallen service members and run or walk the 1-mile event course.

The "Run for the Fallen" memorial began as a run from Fort Irwin, Calif. to Arlington National Cemetery in June 2008. The event quickly spread to other locations across the country as a way to honor each Soldier, Sailor, Airmen or Marine who has given the ultimate sacrifice for their country.

Visitors to the Mountain Post who do not have a military registration decal on their vehicles are asked to use Fort Carson's main gate located just off of State Highway 115 on the west side of the post. All visitors must present a federal or state issued photo identification card, vehicle registration, proof of insurance and be prepared for a vehicle search at the gate.
