Fort Carson has a new Purple Heart recipient.

Friends and family came to McMahon Theater on the Mountain Post to watch the award be pinned on the chest of Specialist Robert Hunt.

Hunt, serving as a combat medic with D Company, 2-27th Infantry, 25th Infantry Division, was injured in Iraq when an armor piercing rocket propelled grenade hit his vehicle. Hunt was wounded, but despite injuries, he gave emergency treatment to his crew.

After recovering from his injuries, Specialist Hunt returned to his unit to continue serving.

Hunt received the award from Brig. Gen. Gary Cheek, commander of the U.S. Army Warrior Transition Command.

Currently, Hunt is an emergency room medic in Fort Carson's Medical Department.
