Fort Carson soldier jailed in North Carolina on suspicion of murder

Detectives with the Colorado Springs Police Department will be making their way to Greenville, North Carolina this week to speak with a suspect they believe is involved in a suspicious death at a hotel.

Sunday morning, officers responded to the Crowne Plaza Hotel, 2886 S. Circle Drive on a welfare check call.

When police checked a hotel room in question, they discovered a female dead on scene.

Montell Mayo, 24, turned himself into police in North Carolina after learning authorities were looking for him.

He is currently being held in the Pitt County jail on suspicion of first-degree murder.

He is being held without bail while he awaits possible extradition back to Colorado.

Mayo is a Fort Carson soldier from the Greenville area.
