Fort Carson suffers loss of another soldier in Afghanistan

News First 5 was notified by the Department of Defense via a release announcing the death of a soldier from Fort Carson.

The DOD report states that Sgt. Lex L. Lewis age 40 from Rapid City S.D., died July 15th from combat related injuries he sustained when his unit was attacked with small arms fire in the Farah province of Afghanistan. Sgt Lewis was attached to the 1st Squadron, 10th Cavalry, 2nd Brigade combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Carson, Colorado.

The 2nd Brigade Combat Team has approximately 3,800 soldiers deployed to Afghanistan and is operating in the far northwestern region of the country near Iran. The mission there is to conduct patrols and seek out insurgents working with other NATO forces.
