Tomorrow is St. Patrick's Day, and it will be a busy one in downtown Colorado Springs. Beautiful weather should greet the 30,000 people expected to watch the annual parade, the 5k race and the 50K bike ride. With all the fun it may be easy to indulge- which is why Designated Driver pf Colorado Springs is offering free rides home for you and your car.
The service is back up and running after a brief hiatus; the non-profit had to make a comeback from a funding lapse. With the support of local bars and nightclub owners, they've succeeded in their endeavor- just in time for St. Patty's Day. Sponsors are saying this is an important cause that is beneficial to the community's citizens and businesses. "Thats a good thing for downtown, to make sure that the patrons have a safe and a very comfortable evening and an enjoyable evening and get to go home safe," Kathy Guadagnoli, a nightclub owner told News 5 today.
Designated Driver volunteers works in tandem, having one person drive the caller and the other person drive their vehicle- so now it's not an excuse to drive drunk just because you've got work in the morning. Many bars will be handing out vouchers downtown on St. Patrick's day- the service will run from 7:00 PM to 3:00 AM, offering rides from qualifying bars and restaurants to residences. You can find the complete list of qualifying locales here:
McDivitt Kaw Firm is also paying for cab rides on St. Patrick's Day- just call Yellow Cab at (719) 719-7777 and tell the dispatcher 'It's on McDivitt's" and your ride home will be paid for.
