Free spay and neuter for cats offered

The Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region is offering free spay and neuter surgeries to low-income cat owners during the month of January.  Appointments are available on a first-come, first-serve basis and space is limited.

"We are jump starting our new Subsidized Spay-neuter Program by offering free sterilizations for cats. The Animal Assistance Foundation provided a grant to fund the free cat sterilizations," said Jan McHugh-Smith, President and CEO, HSPPR.

The Subsidized Spay-Neuter Program, which was launched in November, offers surgeries for dogs and cats to income qualified individuals and families. "Our ultimate goal is to reduce the pet overpopulation by offering a cost-effective alternative."

The Colorado Springs area has what the Humane Society calls an enormous cat overpopulation problem.

For more information on the new spay-neuter program or to schedule a surgery time, call (719) 473-1741 extension 195.
