The people who knew George McHenry the best, his friends and family, say they are in a state of shock following his death.
McHenry passed away in a plane crash this morning at the airport in Pueblo.
Pilots at the airport today were too upset to speak with us on camera, but they did have plenty to share about their friend.
They say McHenry was a first-rate pilot and mechanic.
He was flying an experimental plane, although friends say his was extremely modified.
They add McHenry was always tinkering on it and loved every minute of it.
From happy-go-lucky to always smiling, friends described him as one of the best men they had ever met.
Many came to the airport today just to be in the company of others after finding out about the loss of one of their own.
One of his fellow pilots flew over the accident scene to take a photo we have shared on here and on our Facebook page.
Most of the pilots say those who fly aren't just friends, they see each other as family.
Many friends today are grieving the loss of McHenry just a couple weeks after losing another local pilot, retired police Captain John Barger.
Barger and Pueblo County Sheriff's Captain Leide Defusco were flying over the mountains of the San Isabel National Forest looking for an illegal marijuana operation when their plane went down.
Friends of George McHenry say he gave a beautiful speech last week at Barger's memorial service.
