GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - Attorneys for a Carbondale man facing a murder charge are seeking a gag order and trying to block prosecutors from getting hair and saliva samples from him.
Thirty-nine-year-old Fredy Argueta Cabrera is accused of fatally shooting Douglas Menjivar on July 31 and wounding Leydy Trejo, who is Cabrera's stepdaughter. She was dating Menjivar.
The Glenwood Springs Post Independent reported Thursday Cabrera's attorneys asked the judge for a gag order to limit pre-trial publicity. Defense attorneys also asked the judge to bar the collection of hair and saliva samples and to keep prosecutors from getting records of Cabrera's jail visitors.
They also asked for an order requiring law officers to preserve all their notes on the case.
Cabrera's next court appearance is scheduled for Aug. 21.
