German FM to meet Kerry to discuss spying claims

BERLIN (AP) - Germany's foreign minister says he'll meet this weekend with Secretary of State John Kerry to discuss allegations of American spying on Germany, which have soured relations between the two allies.

Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier says the meeting will take place on the sidelines of talks in Vienna about Iran's nuclear program.

Yesterday, Germany asked Washington's top intelligence agent in Berlin to leave the country as result of the two cases and ongoing friction over reports last year that the U.S. was intercepting Internet traffic in Germany and eavesdropping on Chancellor Angela Merkel's cellphone calls.

Steinmeier says reports that U.S. intelligence had recruited two Germans, a man who worked at the country's foreign intelligence agency and a defense ministry employee, are "troubling."
