Giambi goes 3-3 in final rehab game with Sky Sox

The Colorado Springs Sky Sox beat the Memphis Redbirds 7-5 Wednesday in front of 7,706 fans at Security Service Field.

In his final tune-up before returning to the Rockies, Jason Giambi went 3-for-3 with RBI singles in the first, second and fourth innings to help the Sox jump out to a 7-2 lead. Joe Mather also drove in two runs on the night with a first inning double and a second inning single.

Sox starter Greg Reynolds (6-5, 6.55) pitched well in picking up his first win since July 7th, allowing five runs on six hits in 7.1 innings while striking out seven.

With the Sox clinging to a 7-4 lead in the eighth, the Redbirds loaded the bases with one out. Andrew Brown sent a deep drive into the right field corner that looked like a sure bases clearing double, but right fielder Scott Beerer made a diving catch as Nick Stavinoha tagged from third. However, Mark Hamilton failed to tag up from second base on the play and on an appeal was called out, ending the inning.

Sox closer Jim Miller recorded the final five outs of the game, picking up his 19th save of the season and preserving the 7-5 victory.

Memphis starter Brian Broderick (5-5, 5.85) took the loss allowing seven runs on 11 hits in 3.1 innings.

With the win, the Sox improved to 54-65 while Memphis fell to 60-58.

Sox Notes:

• With a paid attendance of 7,706 Wednesday night, the Sox set a franchise record for attendance in a four-game series as 27,113 fans took in the series with Memphis. They also set a seven-day franchise record as 42,616 fans attended games during the homestand
