Maine's annual Damariscotta Pumpkin Fest included pumpkin growers smashing some of their best produce.
The three-day pumpkin fest was started by growers Bill Clark and Buzz Pinkham, who persuaded local businesses and others to join them.
They had pumpkin boat races, shot pumpkins from a cannon, baked pumpkins into desserts and finally dropped the biggest onto a police car.
Hundreds of people bought tickets for the chance to pull the rope on the big drop. The pumpkin drop raises money for the Lincoln County Community Energy fund.
Thousands turned out for the events.
