COLORADO SPRINGS - The bomb squad was called on Friday afternoon to investigate a suspicious package found outside of a Colorado Springs bank. The incident happened at around 12:30 p.m. at the Wells Fargo branch at Austin Bluffs Parkway and Academy Boulevard.

Customer Joe Quintana spotted the red gift wrapped box laying next to a staircase and alerted bank employees. After spending 17 months as a contractor in Iraq, Quintana says he learned to be skeptical of any unattended packages.

"I said, I don't want to freak you out but there's a Christmas package by your door," he said.

The bank and a nearby Taco Bell were briefly evacuated as bomb squad technicians took x-rays.

Sgt. Chris Arseneau of the CSPD Bomb Squad explains their suspicions were raised by the fact that the box was found in an area where a lot of people would be expected to pass by.

"Anytime there's any place that's occupied by the public and it could be a potential target of interest such as a financial institution, we always things very seriously," Arseneau said.

The x-rays revealed the box contained a can with some ribbons.
