Goodwill Industries of Colorado Springs is growing. Early next year, the non-profit thrift store chain will relocate its administrative offices and open a new retail store in Pueblo.
"We're growing and serving more people and so we want to better serve the community by making this move to consolidate our programs and administrative offices," explains spokesperson Laura Marth.
Goodwill plans to sell their current administrative building and former processing center in Old Colorado City and centralize their offices at a new location on Garden of the Gods Road.
The new location actually has less space, but Marth says much of that extra square footage was used for processing donations, a task that is now handled by the thrift stores. The lack of office space in the Colorado Avenue buildings has also lead them to lease office space at various locations throughout the city.
Goodwill Industries International also recently gave them permission to open a thrift store at the site of the failed Green Store in Pueblo. The sale of the building should be final in December with the store opening sometime in the spring.
The Colorado Springs Goodwill currently operates nine thrift stores in the Springs, Fountain, Woodland Park, Cañon City and Grand Junction. They are also considering a name change given the broad reach of their operations.
There will be a public meeting on Wednesday afternoon from 4:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. at 2320 Colorado Avenue to answer questions about the move.
