Governor Hickenlooper attends Veterans in Piping graduation Ceremony

Fresh off a game of pool with President Obama in Denver Tuesday night, Governor Hickenlooper headed south to Colorado Springs to attend the Veterans in Piping graduation ceremony.

14 Fort Carson veterans received their diplomas for completing the 18 week program that trains combat veterans at no cost in welding, pipefitting, and plumbing.

A partnership between the Mechanical Contractors Association of Colorado and the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local Union No. 58 places vets who successfully complete the program in an apprenticeship depending on military experience.

Graduates are also able to earn industry-recognized certifications as part of their education.

"99.5 percent of these vets are going to be stellar employees and become leaders in the workplace whether they're driving a truck, welding, or doing pipefitting," says the Governor. "Whatever jobs they find themselves in I think they're going to add value to every company."

He says one of his biggest goals over the next couple of years is to get every returning veteran in Colorado employed.
