Governor Hickenlooper is in Washington DC this weekend meeting with other governors from around the nation.
One of the issues they're addressing is the automatic federal spending cuts or "sequester" set to kick in at the beginning of march if congress doesn't work out another deal.
Hickenlooper says something has to be done.
"We should go back and remember that sequestration was originally designed by both the administration and congress as something so odious, so repellent, that it would force both sides to a compromise," he said.
The Obama administration says blame lies with Republicans if a deal isn't reached to avoid the cuts, but on the other side, Republicans say the president and Democrats are using the deadline to force a tax hike.
