Do you want to see how your tax dollars are being spent? A Grand Opening will be held Saturday for the Pikes Peak Library District's newest library, High Prairie Library, 7035 Old Meridian Road.
The High Prairie Library is the first to be built east of the Powers Blvd. corridor and will serve the growing Falcon population.
High Prairie Library was constructed in an environmentally-friendly way with geothermal heating and cooling, clerestory windows, energy-efficient insulation, and furniture made from renewable and sustainable materials.
Nearly half of the cost of the $3 million, 6,000-square foot library was paid for by grants. In addition, the land was donated by Farmers State Bank.
The Grand Opening will be held at 10 a.m. It will include giveaways for children who read with Paws to Read service dogs. There will be a program on miniature horses at noon, a 4 p.m. cup-stacking demonstration, and many other activities. Refreshments will be served.
